We encourage the members of our church to be the hands of Christ in our community. Many of our members get involved with different organizations in the greater Huntsville/Madison area. Below are some of the ways our members help others – and they would love for you to join them!
As we give thanks for our own Grace Lutheran School ministry, we also find value in supporting and encouraging our public school system. One of our members has established a partnership with McDonnell Elementary School here in Huntsville. Through this partnership we seek to provide help to the teachers, student body, and families of McDonnell Elementary School.
First Stop encounters the homeless where they are, connects them to critical services and support, and empowers them toward independent, sustainable living. First Stop relies on volunteer support to provide hot meals twice a day. One of our members volunteers with their Suds n’ Buds program, in which she interacts with those using the laundry services. There are many volunteer opportunities for those seeking to serve in this area.
“Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.” (Hebrews 13:3) Kairos prison ministry carries out an evangelism ministry at the Limestone Correctional Facility in Limestone County. One of our members is passionate about prison ministry and evangelism and regularly participates with Kairos in the ministry they carry out at the Limestone facility.
Jesus declares in Matthew 25:40, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Every Thursday a small group of members from Grace works together at the Food Bank of North Alabama to assist our community in feeding the hungry throughout North Alabama.
Experiencing a health crisis or seeking medical care can be a very stressful time in a person’s life. Receiving an act of kindness from someone who just wants to help can be a bright spot, even when the circumstances are dim. A couple of members at Grace engage in the community by volunteering at Huntsville Hospital Breast Center, and you are welcome to serve with them.
