On February 4th the Saints Alive will go on a tour of Phoenix Glass Recycling on Evangel Drive in Huntsville. Phoenix was founded in 2021 after it was recognized that Madison County had a need for a dedicated glass recycling service. Following nearly a year of research and planning, the company was launched and has steadily grown into a community resource with nearly 1,000 subscribers and numerous commercial partners. Phoenix has already diverted more than 345 tons of glass from the landfill in its first five years, turning a local gap into a sustainable solution for residents and businesses alike. Our tour will include a talk, a warehouse walkthrough, a live glass crusher demo, container shop browsing, and a Q & A session. There is a suggested cost of $5.00 to support safety gear, staff time, and educational programming.
We will have two tour times because their limit of guests is 15 due to space. We will have a morning tour at 10:30 AM and an afternoon tour at 1:30 PM with lunch between the tours at Olive Garden at 12:00 PM. Please sign up in the narthex with the time that you would like to attend. We will be using both of our buses so that all of the attendees may have lunch together at the same time. The bus for the morning tour will leave Gibson’s parking lot at 10:00 AM. The afternoon bus will leave the parking lot at 11:30 AM. Parking space at the facility is very limited so riding the bus is the best way to get there. If you cannot ride the bus but will drive yourself, please indicate so on the sign-up sheet. Donna Behnken is the coordinator of the trip.
