"Shoes That Fit" is a national, non-profit organization that was founded by Elodie Silvia in California in 1992, with the purpose of providing needy school children with NEW shoes and other items of clothing. In November of 2002, our Thrivent Financial organization at Grace provided the start=up funds for the first "STF" branch in the state of Alabama.
In the past few years, with the generous donations from the Grace Lutheran congregation, and fund-raisers by Thrivent and Smoked Offerings, we have been able to provide over 160 pairs of shoes, winter jackets, and other items of clothing to children at Lincoln, Terry Heights, and Ridgecrest Elementary Schools. Each item is delivered with a letter stating that it comes from the "Shoes that Fit" program at Grace Lutheran Church. Usually the children are able to have a new pair of shoes and a winter jacket within a day or two of their need being identified. Many heart-warming 'thank you' letters from the children at Lincoln have been posted on the Thrivent Bulletin board.
If you would like to make a donation, checks may be made out to Grace with the notation "Thrivent STF Funds." If you are able to purchase and provide shoes on short notices, please contact Kim Dague. And last but not least, please keep this mission outreach in your prayers. Thank you!!
