Walter Haag Church Library

Walter Haag Library

Hours:  Open every Sunday during worship services and Sunday School

Over 3,300 Christian books,  magazines, video tapes, audio tapes, DVD movies, and music CDs.  We have a wide variety of non-fiction, fiction, biography, and reference materials, including a section specifically for children.

Never a late fee!

The Walter Haag Library is located in the main building.  If you proceed from the Church Office towards the old Gym, you will see the library’s recessed double doors on your right, directly after you pass the Parrish Education Office.

Checkout:  We use an honor-system - no cards or dues are required.   Simply follow the directions at the checkout desk (see diagram below) and sign your item(s) out on the checkout sheet.

Returns:  When you return your item, leave it on the desk or cart and cross out your entry from the checkout sheet.  Please do not reshelve the item yourself!

Due Dates:  Reference materials may not be checked out.  DVDs and Video Tapes may be checked out for one week.  All other items may be checked out for one month.  Currently, there is no limit to the number of items that may be checked out.

The Walter Haag Library is a multi-purpose facility.  Members may reserve the conference room (seats 12) for meetings, use the multimedia carts for video presentations, and, of course, check out one of our many books, tapes, CDs, or DVDs.

The Walter Haag library is named and dedicated in honor of the late Rev. Walter Haag.  Pastor Haag served in many capacities at Grace Lutheran.  He was a learned and dedicated adult Sunday School instructor and also served as Visitation Minister for many years.  His love of knowledge, and desire to share that knowledge, inspired the creation of the Walter Haag Library.

The Walter Haag Library donates duplicate books and videos, used Sunday School materials, and used Christian magazines to the Edwin L. Hodges Ministries (located in Decatur, Alabama), where they are distributed worldwide to 116 countries on six continents.

Can’t find what you want, or don’t know if it’s available?  Try searching the on-line library database!

Searching the Dababase

In the search box at the end of this webpage, select “Search”. Now fill in your search criteria and click on “Search” again.  You don’t have to fill out all of the blank fields,  you can simply enter an author’s last name or several words from the title.  The more information you enter, the more focused your results will be.  Once you find your item, note the Call Number.

The Call Number consists of two to five pieces of data, each separated by spaces. The first part tells you the section where the item is located, and usually what type of item it is.

All items except Fiction and Biographies (and some video tapes) are next arranged by Dewey Number (see below), then finally by the first three letters of the author’s last name (except Biographies, which use the first three letters of the subject’s last name).

 Call Number (first part) Legend:

AT        Audio Tape section

Bio       Biography section

C          Children’s section (all children’s items except Video Tapes and magazines)

 CD        CD section

Dewey Number

All Religion items have Dewey numbers in the range of 200-299, with many subdivisions for specific areas, too numerous to discuss here. A sign over the librarian’s desk shows a general outline.  You can visit our website or search online for a more detailed list.

Note: The database won’t indicate if an item is checked out.  Also, some items, such as magazines, are not catalogued.
