Foster Community Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the Foster Community? 

It is East of Jordan Lane and North and South of Drake in the Ridgecrest and McDonnell Elementary school districts. 

Never tell your neighbors to wait until tomorrow if you can help them now.  Proverbs 3:28 

Why the Foster Community? 

1) We can go to the community and minister to them by using the Iglesia de la Comunidad as a focal area for many of our activities

2) It is an area that is not exempt from crime and drug use

3) Many are in need of hope and assistance and have low self esteem

4) We can Make a Difference in their lives

5) It is close to Grace Lutheran

6) Ridgecrest Elementary School supports our efforts in the community

7) We can attract members of the Hispanic community to Iglesia de la Comunidad, so they get to know Jesus Christ

8) We can Make a Difference 

If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done.  Ecclesiastes 11:4

How are we Making a Difference in the Foster Community? 

1) By being unconditionally committed to help the community in giving of our time, talents and treasures.  We are there for them.

2) By getting out of our comfort zone, finding out what their needs are and responding to them on their terms, we have built relationships.  These relationships have established us as a group of people who can be trusted and provide helpful assistance.  

Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.  Galatians 6:2

Why help people who might not be citizens of the United States?

You can tell what they are by what they do.  Mathew 7:16 

Why do a mission project?  

1) A mission project provides opportunities to share the love of Jesus Christ. 

2) We can grow in our faith

3) Expand God's kingdom

4) Have fellowship with people in the community

5) To give of our time, talents and treasures to help those who are not as fortunate as we

6) Gives us a chance to witness to unbelievers 

Whoever does not have the Spirit cannot receive the gifts that come from God's Spirit.  1 Corinthians 2:14 

Why do Lutherans work with the Methodists or other Christian denominations? 

Because our community efforts are about the growth of God's Kingdom and sharing the love of Jesus! 

A unity of purpose produces dividends.  Acts 6:7
