Be the Church

Be the Church is a great opportunity for us to give back to our community in a variety of service projects.  In 2009, a variety of different volunteer opportunities were identified across Madison county.  Grace members then signed up for a project and went to their project site instead of the worship service on the designated Sunday.

Be the Church 2010

On Sunday, November 7th our church will be encountering an exciting opportunity to serve our area.  We will be sharing God's love in a practical way and worshipping Him outside of our sanctuary walls.  Groups will be leaving church around 9:00 am after an abbreviated 8:30 am service and head out to designated project sites.  There will be a variety of sites and ways to serve; some will be serving through physical labor such as planting or doing constructions, others will serve through personal interactions such as visiting and praying in various locations, and others will help with assembling snack boxes and bags of essentials for the homeless.  Each project is designed to Make a Difference in the lives of the people being ministered to through the people that are reaching out to them.

Watch for the sign up areas coming soon!  It is important you sign up because each project will have a designated number of people needed.

Below are some ways that you can help plan Be the Church:

Project Recommendations

Do you know of a nursing home or retirement home that could use some visitors?  Any ideas on how can we serve the fire department?  Do you know of a person who needs home maintenance?  How about an organization that could use some help with completing a project?  Some general ideas for work projects would be, but not limited to: general repairs, raking, mowing, painting, and general clean-up.  We would provide the labor; we would just ask that the organization provide the materials, if any need to be purchased.  Approximate time frame for the projects should be 2-4 hours.  Contact Scott Miller with project recommendations.

Project Site Leaders

The leader at the project site will be responsible for visiting the site in advance to determine the needs and discuss details with the organizational leader.  The leader will also coordinate logistics (tools, transportation, directions, etc.).

Project Site Volunteer

Only need a servant's heart and the desire to serve our community with the joy of our Lord.

Donations

Bright Pink donation boxes found outside the service areas are for items needed for projects, including: canned goods, small cans of meat, fish, or chicken, packages of pre-wrapped crackers (peanut butter or cheese) and desserts (cookies or snack cakes), 6 oz. cans or boxes of juice, fruit cups, napkins, plastic forks and spoons and bottled water.  You may also write a check made out to Grace Lutheran Church with "Be the Church" in the memo line.
